Selection process in ornamental plant breeding

چکیده
Abstract The selection is a process in which the best genotypes are chosen according to desired characteristics for specific use of plant. Novelty, health, particular each market and, increasingly, low environmental impact its production, valued. One most questionable points ornamental plants fact that beauty subjective. To reduce subjectivity, breeders have delimit criteria previously, generating ranking and assigning values characters new cultivar. traits be evaluated depend on crop intended: cut flowers foliage, pot plants, landscape plants. In addition, functional (green walls curtains, green roofs ecological function plants) their own criteria.

Interspecific Hybridisation and Polyploidisation as Tools in Ornamental Plant Breeding
Interspecific hybridisation and polyploidy are recognized as the most important sources of evolution and domestication of flowering plants. In ornamental plant breeding these phenomena go hand in hand and can be observed in the breeding history of many ornamental crops (Rosa, Chrysanthemum, Gladiolus, Alstroemeria, Lilium, orchids etc). With lily as model crop techniques developed for overcomin...

Marigold botanically identifies as Tagetes (Compositae) genus is an ethnobotanically known drug, used from ancient times in the Indian system of Medicine for the treatment of rheumatism, cold, bronchitis, eye diseases, ulcers etc. Tagetes species, commonly known as marigold, are grown as ornamental plants and thrive in varied agro-climates. The genus has been recognized as a potential source of...
متن کاملDoes genomic selection have a future in plant breeding?
Plant breeding largely depends on phenotypic selection in plots and only for some, often disease-resistance-related traits, uses genetic markers. The more recently developed concept of genomic selection, using a black box approach with no need of prior knowledge about the effect or function of individual markers, has also been proposed as a great opportunity for plant breeding. Several empirica...

We intuitively believe that the dramatic drop in the cost of DNA marker information we have experienced should have immediate benefits in accelerating the delivery of crop varieties with improved yield, quality and biotic and abiotic stress tolerance. But these traits are complex and affected by many genes, each with small effect. Traditional marker-assisted selection has been ineffective for s...
